Moving

Moving

Moving to France can be attractive for many reasons — it all depends on your personal situation, wishes and goals.

France is known for its “joie de vivre”: good food, relaxation and enjoying life.

Healthcare is of high quality and relatively affordable, especially with a Carte Vitale.

You can still find affordable housing outside the big cities, in the countryside or in smaller villages.

France has a rich history, beautiful architecture, a vibrant culture

and is famous for its cuisine: fresh bread, cheese, wine, markets… a paradise for foodies.

You can choose from very diverse regions: beaches on the Côte d’Azur, mountains in the Alps or Pyrenees, or just the rural life in the Dordogne.

Lots of sun in the south, or a more temperate climate in the north.

Some people start a gîte or chambres d’hôtes (bed & breakfast) there or work remotely for a company in their home country. France has a good school system and many opportunities for bilingual education (useful for children of expats).

France is very child-friendly, with good childcare facilities and many bank holidays.

Because France is part of the European Union, you can, as a citizen of a EU member state, move to France relatively easily, without a visa or residence permit.

However…

Without a good knowledge of French, simple things can get difficult (paperwork, doctors, speaking to neighbours).

Bureaucracy: France is known for its complex administrative processes.

Social integration: French people are friendly, but it can take time to really become part of their social circle.

It is not easy to find work in all regions, especially if you do not speak French.
